Autumn at Scout Hall

We don't really have a lot to report since our last post a few months back, but we have been taking some photos so thought we'd share some shots of the Hall and garden.

And so ...

... we continue to think about the Hall and bandy about ideas for its renovation and conversion into a family home. Each time we return to the Hall we see more details we love.

Taming the jungle: part 1.

Today we decided to attack a part of the garden with the help of an industrial-strength strimmer.

Balsam Bashing - or failure to launch ...

This weekend we decided to begin the process of bringing the Himilayan Balsam under control ...

Himilayan Balsam (Impatiens glandulifera) is actually quite pretty, so we didn't think too much about it on our earlier trips - we thought we'd maybe cull some of it back but happily keep some of it ... as, I said, it is really quite pretty.

The Scout Hut

We have decided to name our to-be-built temporary home in the garden: The Scout Hut.

A design has been finalised and its position in the garden has been confirmed.

We will share some pictures of it being built as and when we have some.

Exciting times!!!!

In addition, we hope to erect an information board of sorts at the front of the property, by the boundary wall alongside the public right of way. We thought it would be a nice way of keeping those interested in the building and its renovation up to date. We hope that, one day, it'll display a short history of the building - so we must get our historian caps on and get researching!

The Hall today

We thought it'd be nice to introduce everyone to Scout Hall as it looks now, before we undertake any renovation works - which, to be fair, won't be happening too soon as we need to go through various planning stages etc. Here are a few images we took on our first visit to the property.

And so, the journey begins

About 2 years ago we first noticed Scout Hall in the Shibden Valley on the market. We were hooked by the idea of renovating such a beautiful wreck and calling it our family home. We had been looking for a house to make our family home for some years and whilst this looked to be a dream of a project, did we really want to take on something this momentous? We contacted an architect and looked into the logistics of such a romantic project ...
